Tis the season to get crafty

My first post of 2015! Happy New Year to everyone – bit late but I do have until the end of the month!

Things have been moving here at la vie en rose – I did some serious organising during the Christmas break and my craft corner is looking a lot better than it did … Great opportunity to go through my stash (which increased dramatically after a massive yarn donation from my sister-on-law!) and to find projects for each yarn.

I found of couple of quick projects and one slightly longer one to fill the long winter evenings and managed to complete 3 projects in the first half of January!

First up was a slouchy hat I made for myself with 3 different wools I had stashed away.

Great for keeping my head warm while waiting for the train and it doesn’t mess my hair up too much!

Next up, Wingspan. Perfect for a 100g ball of sock yarn I had lying around – I love the look of the self-striping effect – the short rows made little red and cream wedges:

Just the right fit!

Just the right fit!

Last up, my first project using dpns in the round – usually I opt for the magic-loop method using one long circular needle but I wanted to give this a go:

IMG_1741It’s definitely slower-going than using circulars but it’s a good technique to know.

Out of this little mess came these yoga socks:

IMG_1742Great for my gym class as your feet stay warm without sliding around all over the place – also great as pedicure socks 🙂

Just to finish off, I made the last minute decision to make something for Christmas – I started it on 21 December and called it “my 11th hour project”. Here are some pictures of the progress as I was working on it:

First couple of rounds – looks nothing like what it’s supposed to!

A bit of shaping – is it a hat?

Looks like it’s starting to take shape!

Voilà! A Christmas stocking for Lisa

I literally wove in the ends on Christmas eve – talk about 11th hour! Quick and fun to make – would recommend it to anyone for next Christmas (just start early than the 21st – trust me!)

Details here.

Next time, I’ll be talking about my upcoming projects – tune in next time for more crafty adventures!

Bisous!
